A kind of religions in my life

The first time went to the Christ church, I felt a little bit different. Before that, I didn’t know what to do in the religion places.
This church built at MOCHOU road in Nanjing. We went there on Saturday. At that day, the church had lots of people, many foreigners and Chinese were there. We saw Ms.Bartell and Mr.Beath. A part of GCA students went there, because we didn’t know when the church has activities and our portfolio needed us to go a place about religion. So we decided to go there together. When we went there, the time was early, the activities were not start, but we already entered the church, the workers gave us the volume about the songs. So I thought we would study the songs at that day. When the activities started, I found there were so many people. They took a religious heart to join the activities. Religion is very important to a person. There are 4 main religions in the world. One is Buddhism, the other one is Christianism, and Islam, Catholicism. Western people believe in the christanism and the Catholicism. Eastern people believe in Buddhism. It depends on the different background and culture. Belief may like a supporter in your life. People believe this can help us. So lots of people have their own belief. It is a good wish and wants to have good life. When we finished songs, we took photos there, it would as a evidence about the religion part. Maybe we should go the church always, because it can clean your heart.

went to a performance

A performance named “Taming of the Shrew” it held in our academy, most of students went there, I also went there.
This performance’s poster was already putted up in our school, and the ticket of this drama was 25RMB, it was the vip price, normal price was 20RMB. The actors of this performance almost from Grade 11and 12, just one from the Grade 10. It was the first time we looked a performance when we came to Grand Canadian academy. I had the very hard impression in my heart. In ordered to play this dram, Grade 10 students did the volunteer for this. “Taming of the shrew” was the famous comedy was written by William Shakespeare. It introduced a story what showed money and love between male and female. It also depended on that century and society. Two main characters are Katharina and Petruchio. Katharine had bad temperament, but she didn’t want to believe this truth, so she found Petruchio, and petruchio used the same way to tame the female character. This dram cost lots of time and use lots of energy. When we looked this drama, neither clothes nor plots were perfect.
Our school played two dramas, one was” Romeo and Juliet”, another one was “Taming of the shrew”, we can see the improvement between these two dramas. Thanks actors gave us exciting performance; we should learnt something from this. Use your ability t o create the things , to do better and get good result, and also need to know more masterwork in the world.

Acted in snow white

In December, 2008. We acted in a performance named” snow white”, it was for Christmas day.
Each class needed to prepare at least one program, so our class decided to make a program that could include most of our classmates, it was a chance to act in a performance, and it could add into our portfolio. There were many roles let you to choose. We all read snow white, and the main character is snow white, the worst character is her stepmother. There are also seven little people in this story, it tell us snow white achieved lots of troubles. Finally, she got her true love. A very beautiful story. First, we changed the plots, but still depended on the original story. We changed the seven small people into seven giants. I responsed for one of the seven giants. We did the practice before a week when we needed to act. I still remembered at that time we used Christmas’s hats and the girl named Soda who dressed up snow white, she ware the long dress, looked so beautiful. We started at almost the end of the show, maybe the first time to act in a performance, a little bit shy and scared. Though our dialogues were not long. In general, our acting was successful, it also made me get the experience of acting.
I think I need to join more public activities; these can improve my reaction and make me more outgoing. Expect for next performance, I should try my best to do!

volunteer in term 3

This term, I did volunteer works in GCA, from the beginning of the term 3, I did the volunteer works in teacher’s office, and helped with GCA fashion show.
Ms.Bartell gave us works after class in Monday and Tuesday every week. Katherine, Grace, and I. Sometimes Jessica and May came with us together. Our volunteer work about 1 hour each day. So Ms.Bartell gave us I hour volunteer time for us if we helped her after the classes. We did the volunteer before the fashion show; we did some paintings and cuttings. Ms. Hadely gave us 5 hours to support volunteer time.
Always, Ms. Bartell let us do the future things. When I first did the volunteer, I chose the computer work, it was typing all the Grade 10 students’ name on the computer, it about the video group. And then, when I finished, Ms.Bartell asked me find the definitions about the planning words on the Internet, we have 25 new words for each week, we should them, because we will have a quiz on Friday about the new words. I found the definitions for these words, and also needed to paste the definitions on the ppt. Ms.Bartell said she didn’t afraid me to know the meaning of each word, because I couldn’t remember the meaning of these words, it was for a few weeks later, so if I could remember these, I was crazy! A little bit interesting. Actually, many words that I didn’t know the meaning, and the website only has the English, so use didn’t know the sentence to explain the didn’t know the word, and some of these words has 2,3 or 4 definitions, I didn’t know which I should choose. It was a little bit hard for me. In the after days, I did almost the same things for Ms.Bartell. From there, I got 9 hours. A Chance for us to save the volunteer time was going to the Primary school to teach students English and teach them how to play cards named “uno”. We could see these students very like to play uno. It was the I hour volunteer time for us.
Another big chance for me to get the time was GCA fashion show. A few students went to art room to help Ms. Hadley. Most of us are girls, just one boy. Our main job was drawing the words” fashion show”, but I didn’t draw them. I cut the letters and painted them. We got a good idea, it was use different colors to paint one letter. It about 5 to 6 different colors, it could make letter look acitive. The big black screen was decked by us. We needed to make the words on the black screen, so we used the staplers to do it. When it finished, we also needed to put It on the wall. it used in the fashion show in the night. When we saw the screen during the fashion show, a little bit happy, because it showed our work.
Term three’s volunteer was finished, but I should do the volunteer in the term4, it can save for Grade 11, very happy to do this!!

Ate with friends in Nanjing

Last week, I and my friends in GCA went to the Indian restaurant to eat. It could be very different from Chinese food, neither the food nor structure.
When we into the Indian food restaurant, there was something smells good, it was the sandalwood, the reason is very easy, because Indians believe in Buddhism. This thing made people feel quiet and comfortable. It was the different culture between two countries. Looked through the menu, depended on how much money we had, so we chose the price of middle’s food. Just wait…… a few minutes later, the foods were taken. We didn’t use knife, because the food that didn’t need to use knife. There was a big pancake; it may be the traditional food in India。 Cook used special materials add into the pancake, this is enough for one person to eat. Other foods in our plate were curry, salads, a bowl of rice and some meat. Indian curry is very popular in the world, this restaurant has another characteristic. The cook is an Indian, so the taste is traditional and delicious. Indian has different eating habit. We should use fingers to eat the pancake, and then with the curry, you can find the nation feeling between us, like you stayed in India that time. So imagine. There were many foreigners, and the waitress need to speak English, so we think, if we have time, we can go there get a part-time job, so now we must practice English as much as we can. This opportunity made us learn many things that we can’t learn from classes. I love it!

An exhibition experience

The same day as we went to the Indian restaurant, also we went to Nanjing exhibition center to see the different things in China or Nanjing. Really shock.
First, there didn’t need pay for the ticket. So it was free to visit. We went to the Fabric and Embroidery Hall. The main thing is cloud brocade. It is the biggest symbol in Nanjing. From that, we knew it appears nearly 1600 years ago. One cloud brocade need lots of time to finish, very complexity, but when it finish, you can see how beautiful on it. Fantastic! It is the valued artwork from past to now. Really important status in the Chinese art history. Then we went to the Ancient Chinese Lacquer, Modern Art Mall, and Ancient Chinese Jade. The most impress place was Ancient Chinese Lacquer. There were lots of valuable things. For example, a big chair made by jade, it was used by emperor, and it looked liked very gorgeous. My friend Amy took photo with it. Besides that, a long hall exhibits some little things about mirrors, climbs and plates with lacquer. Really beautiful. I took photos there. After there, Modern Art Hall was a big characteristic. Entre there, the main color was red, because this year is ox year in China; all the things were according to the ox to create. Neither needlework nor Porcelain, anywhere you can see about ox feeling. We didn’t stayed exhibition center until the door was closed. Perfect exhibition in Nanjing. If we have time, we need to go more places to visit.

studied in guitar club

As for me, a have not been studied musical instrument guy. Since I been to the GCA, I have many new chances to change. Joined the guitar club was my new change.
First touched my new guitar, I was very crazy; it was a really stranger for me. How to play it? It that difficult? I didn’t know. My guitar class started after the October’s holiday. Until now, I can remember clearly. After the school, we took guitar class at 10D, and in this day, just had 3 students, of course. Include me. Our proprieter is 10D’s student Christopher. He did really well in guitar, and he played a melody with guitar. At that time, I wanted to study guitar quickly, because I also wanted to play a song what I want. This was my incipient thought. But after a period of time, I didn’t think it was easy to do.
First, we learnt about some professional knowledge, like how can a guitar be made? And classify the guitar, and more. We studied the most easily song at first, if you want to play the song, you must know how to make your fingers on the guitar. Everyone leant it. In fact, this was not very difficult, but for me, it was a little bit difficult, because I never studied any instrument before. This made me sad. Oh, my god! How can I improve my skills? It was the biggest problem around me at that time. Slowly, I could do it better, but the new problem was coming. Was not very much to understand some content meaning of, seem as if some terms are not clear. Everybody had all learned an instrument , has understood that very quickly, also, melting being able to very quickly enters new content middle, but I was deficient in a little bit. Therefore, some are depressed do not know how to ask to come on. This is to need efforts, is to make great efforts are more than others. Everything should have a formula, a fast way to get successes. It is do more practices and ask people who can do it better than you. It is totally correct. So focus on guitar, it also need to practice more, I have known this truth already, but to come true this saying is not easy, I was upset, even wanted to drop out this club, I couldn’t find any happy things during the guitar lessons.
But I thought about for a few days, I decided to not to give up. If I gave up, I couldn’t gain anything; just represented I had no backbone or self-confidence. I didn’t want to say no to me. So keep going.
Everything is not easy that you think. If you choose it, you must to finish it. Do not give up at the half of the process. And you should have confidence; it’s the most important thing to let you to finish a thing. In next term, I will challenge myself on guitar.

Physicis activity

During the winter holiday did some sports for ten hours. From the exercises, we learnt something to improve our skills, knew how to keep my body strong also how to consolidate the friendship between friends.
. Somebody said life lies in motion so it was important to finish this work. Therefore we must need to insist on physical training, ability is stout our physique. The most important one point, we must insist that down. Only have such, our ability achieving body-building's purpose. So I decided to do some sports every day after supper. I think that exercise plays badminton is very good one motion, With this saying, I went to the gymnasium to do something, thought about what I like playing, so I played badminton with my friends. I went there for 5 days, each day we played for two hours. First day, I called my friends to play with me. We decided to meet at the gate of the gymnasium. This friend was my best friend in the junior middle school. I called her because I wanted to chat to her, we studied in different senior middle school, so we didn’t know the life in senior middle school between each other, so I very missed her, and I wanted to see her in winter holiday. Another reason was I must finish my portfolio. I needed someone to help me.
Next, it was our play time~ first; we paid money for our 2 hours’ activity. Then we started, at the game, there were enough laughter. We both are not professional players, some rules that we didn’t know clearly, so played by our habits. Compare her and me’s level, I think I was better than her. This is a joke, do not mind~ but to be honest, played badminton was really tired, because we didn’t do enough exercises in the daily, so did lots of exercises was tired, it also meant we need improve our health. The time went by quickly; we played badminton there for 2 hours already. First day was finished. In next 4 days, we went there at the same time and called other junior middle school friends to come to play. Lots of them were coming, we played together, that feeling was very good, very warm, and it could connect our relation. This was a fantastic thing in the boring winter holiday.
This was my first activity finished at home in grade 10. A little bit strange between the Chinese high school & Canadian high school. I didn’t know clearly how to finish, but passed this kind of activity, I knew. It was the gain, I also knew health is very important in our life, so must keep your body healthy. But you should obey your physical limitation. For example, I can’t do any climbing or crazy activities. Others are ok. My goal is keeping my body healthy. Do not have many diseases.
Sports are the same as life, change your bad habits, challenge yourself, and improve your wealth.

volunteer time

In the past few months, our school held a drama named “The Taming of the Shrew”…… And at that time, they practiced the drama very hard. But also need the decoration and the background. So need many volunteers to help the performance.
Our English teacher Ms.Mitschrich told us”: do you want to join the volunteer job, it is for drama. Use your free time to do this thing, if you want to come, you can go on weekends. ”
From that, we knew that thing. Many of us decided to help with the drama. On the first weekends, we started at 10:00AM. And our job was painting the wall. Arrived the school, It was a little bit quiet. Look around the surroundings beside the GCA, there were the materials on the ground. There were many paintbrushes, paints, and lots of wood blocks. The volunteers were class A to C’s students, because our teacher gave us this chance. We divided by 5 groups to work. The background wall has 3 colors: brown, gray and dark green. Next, it was our show time~
First, we putted the white and green together, made dark green. And then, draw the wood blocks use brown into frame. Because In order to paint dark green. Next, we used gray to cover dark green, it looked like the true wall. To be honest, it was really a happy thing, because we could from work to learn how to join a group work or how to help each other. For example, when we used the paints to brush the wood, the time went by, between the laugh and work, paints reduced. We found we have no enough paints to cover. Then we thought with a short time, decided to borrow some paints from other groups. As classmates, they lent us many paints that they made up already. It meant others helped us to do the work. It was totally a happy, because students can share something with other people. And can regard other’s work as their work.
Pass this volunteer work; we must realize how group work is important. In fact, lots of activities should be many people, they can improve the efficiency. If you don’t want to work with others in a big project, you may be able not to do it we ll. That because more people more power. To be honest, in Chinese high school, we have no chance to be a volunteer, and also have no chance to work with classmates; it is really a bad thing in Chinese high school, because of the heavy studying assignment, so Chinese high school student don’t have enough time to do the volunteers. It also means they don’t know how to work together with a group or a company.

Differences in eating culture

Different cultures between China and western countries. Our school wanted us to understand the western counties’ cultures. So let us to go to the foreign restaurant with Grade 12 students.
Our class was divided into 3 groups. First group went to the Mexico restaurant. The second group went to the Swiss restaurant. We were the third group, and we went to the American restaurant. On December 28th,2008. We went to the restaurant was called “Lucky star” It translates in Chinese is 乐宜达. When we into the restaurant, we saw different composition from Chinese. And on the table, there were forks and knifes. No chopsticks. Waiter took the menu to us. We looked through the menu, and then ordered the food that we like. I chose the traditional hamburgers and the vegetable salad. The tasty was ok. We all could accept the food. But in many ways, they added the lettuce in the food. As a Chinese, we also boil the vegetables and meat, then we can eat securely. It is the difference between the two countries. And another one is American like’s eats sweet food. For example, they put cheese on the salad or pizza. It is a big reason why foreigners are fatter than Chinese.
We ate the dinner in “lucky star” from 6:30P.M. To 8:00P.M. Later, we settled accounts with this restaurant and took photos in there. Chatted a few minutes, we all went away.
This experience made us know many manners in the foreign restaurant. It was good for us when we go the Canada or other countries. Use right manners to eat in the restaurant. It is very important.

In a windy day, we went the exhibition about sculpture in Nanjing teachers college. These artworks were made by artist Wu Weishan. And these artworks were almost traditional and contemporary.
We saw lots of sculptures in the gallery. These looked very different. Because the artist used enjoyable skills to create artworks. Didn’t copy the realistic things. He used his own technique.” sleeping baby” was the most successful artwork to Wu Weishan. And this artwork won the highest awards.
But I don’t want to describe the “sleeping baby”. I found another artwork that I liked. It named “Xu Beihong”. Wu Weishan made it in 2000.And used soft lines to make his face livelier. The character has a bow tie, and wears suit. He looks firm and kind .The sculpture is made of copper and soil. The color is the same as bronze. Xu Beihong is the subject. His whole body and face are all in the artwork. The sculpture of Xu Beihong makes me feel proud. It was a kind of feeling. Had no words to describe. Maybe he is a giant in my heart. Make people feel cheesy. Like a person who stands in the big windy day, and consider the most difficult problem. I suddenly thought of a father. The sculpture looks firm and kind, like the father I imagined. When I was young, my parents sent me to the school and lived in the dormitory. I didn’t stay for a long time with my father……so lots of stranger hood between my father and me. It could be missing to my father. So when I saw the “Xu Beihong” artwork, I was very proud of him. In his life, he was a very famous and great artist of drawing. He went abroad to study, and many foreign students laughed at him. But he has shown the wisdom of Chinese. He is proud of his country. I think the artist made this person’s sculpture must for this reason.
I like this artwork, because the artist carved this sculpture meticulously. When I saw this, the great image attracted me. His history affected me, so when I saw this artwork, I am still proud of him. I think other people might appreciate the artwork too. He is the proud in drawing of China. Wu Weishan can create all the things that he saw. And make it in a different way. This is a surprise in the whole world.
After the exhibition about the sculpture. We learned the meaning of art. It includes many parts. For examples: drawing, photography, and sculpture what we went to see before. Whatever things we all have to know. Because all kinds of knowledge we must to know. Find the things that happened around you. Use your eyes to observe. You can find your things different with others. It is the art. The most beautiful art is in our life, you must use your heart to realize the true emotion. Expect the next exhibition in GCA.
